Independence Movement leader Michel Moawad discussed Sunday with head of the Tawheed Movement Wiam Wahhab the latest political developments.
The meeting, which took place at Moawad’s residence in Baabda, was attended by Independence Movement officials lawyers Edward Tayyoun, Toni Chedid and Shebian al-Khoury.
Following the meeting, Wahhab said discussions touched on the issues of the presidential election, the parliamentary electoral law and reform in state institutions.
“My visit reflects my belief in the importance of dialogue among all political factions…we have a lot in common with Mr. Moawad who seeks to reform the political system,” Wahhab said.
Wahhab stressed that Hezbollah doesn’t impose its agenda on its allies.
“Hezbollah just like other members within the March 8 coalition supports former General Michel Aoun’s presidential bid. However, his election is not a question of a parliamentary majority. Even if Aoun secures an absolute majority of 65 votes, it doesn’t mean Hezbollah will participate in a session to elect Aoun against the will of the Sunni faction,” Wahhab said.
“No one wants to defeat the other faction and more importantly former General Aoun wants to secure near unanimous support for his election,” Wahhab added.
Wahhab urged dialogue among the Lebanese despite the rising tensions in Syria, Yemen and Iraq and invited former Prime Minister Saad Hariri to return to Lebanon.
