Independence Movement leader Michel Moawad discussed Saturday the latest political development and national reconciliation efforts with a delegation of Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) officials.
Moawad welcomed the PSP delegation at his residence in Baabda. The delegation, which included Media Commissioner Rami Rayess and Secretary General of the PSP’s youth organization Salam Abdel Samad, was dispatched by MP Walid Jumblatt in an effort to mend ties among local political factions.
Following the meeting, Rayess said the visit to Moawad was part of a series of meetings with the country’s leading politicians in an effort to strengthen reconciliations among Lebanese political factions and to promote stability and civil peace.
“We discussed efforts to strengthen national reconciliations particularly the historic reconciliation that took place in Mount Lebanon under the patronage of then-Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Butros Sfeir,” Rayess said.
Rayess added that political officials discussed with Moawad efforts to mend ties among domestic political parties and prevent a spillover of regional conflicts into Lebanon.
