After the meeting, lawyer Henry Moawad said: “On behalf of the leader of the Independence Movement Michel Moawad, we welcome you in his residence in Zgharta. We meet today, days before the Tripoli Bar Association elections. We announce our support to lawyers Abdullah Al Shami for the position of President of the Bar, and lawyer Zahra Al Jisr for the position of member of the Bar Council.”
He concluded by calling on “all esteemed colleagues in the Tripoli Bar Association to vote for the mentioned candidates”.
Lawyer Abdallah Al Shami spoke next: “I appreciate this support, especially when announced from a noble Arabic house, the house of martyr President Rene Moawad. When I was young, I learned a popular saying “One who procreates doesn’t die” and I mean here the leader of the Independence Movement Michel Moawad, who is carrying the flag, with the energy of youth never giving up until he reaches the ultimate goal. He never accepts injustice, and never gives up on a righteous cause. As one who keeps silent towards a right cause is a dumb evil.”
He added: “The promise and support that you all gave me is a great responsibility and I ask the All-Mighty to help me carry this responsibility and your trust with loyalty. My promise to you is to remain faithful to the Oath that I made as a trainee lawyer: “I take the pledge by Almighty God and my honor to remain faithful to your endorsement of my candidature for the position of President of the Bar. I will put all my efforts for this.”
He concluded: “I thank all the parties who are offering their support to me in these elections.”
Lawyer Zahra Al Jisr, spoke too and said: “I am honored to be present in this prestigious and noble house which left its imprints in Lebanon’s national heritage, the house of martyr President Rene Moawad and today of Michel Moawad.”
She added: “Your trust represents a duty for me. I hope that we will all work as one hand in these elections and all future similar occasions. Thank you for all your support and we all hope to remain as one hand today and tomorrow.”
The meeting was followed by a dinner in honor of the candidates.
