The president of the ‘Independence Movement’ Michel Moawad tweeted on his ‘Twitter’ account:

“Illegal arms and the uncontrolled carrying of weapons is harming the stature of the State and empowering thugs.
We have tried this in the past, in all the parts of the country and amongst the various confessional groups, and we have paid the price and still are.”

Moawad added the hashtag #وحدا_الدولة_بتحمينا (The State alone protects us) to his tweet.

He also posted along with the tweet a photo of the victims of the uncontrolled carrying of weapons, which included the words: “We don’t want to go back to what was in the past… This has been our slogan for the past 8 years, so that we don’t keep paying the price.”
