The president of the Independence Movement Michel Moawad tweeted in his personal Twitter account:

“The abolishment of Penal Code article 522, known as the ‘marry your rapist law’, which allowed the rapist to escape prosecution if he marries his victim, is a victory for Justice.
This matter should now be legislatively completed by scrapping all the legal texts that show discrimination against women in Lebanon.”
