The president of the ‘Independence Movement’ Michel Moawad paid a visit to the leader of the ‘Lebanese Forces Party’ Dr Samir Geagea, in Meerab. The meeting, which was attended by MP Fady Karam, revolved around recent events on the political scene.
Speaking after the meeting, Moawad said: “Periods of common struggles unite us with Dr Geagea; struggles that cost us blood, detention and sacrifices. We also share common political principles, like ‘Sovereignty’, which we are always striving for, ‘Participation’, which led me to support the ‘Christian Understanding’ and the present Presidential Mandate, and ‘Fighting Corruption’.”
About fighting corruption, Moawad asserted that he and Dr Geagea “agreed that the implementation of core reforms had become a must in order for Lebanon to survive. Without these reforms everything will fall apart and no one will be able to subsist.”
He added: “As the parliamentary elections are getting closer, during the meeting, we resumed our recent discussions on how we would be able to combine all the principles and constants that I mentioned, with the new elections law that is a bit complex. The new law has its particularities, which could lead in some cases to divisions within one political party or one family. Our discussions are ongoing…”
