Head of the Independence Movement Michel Moawad warned Tuesday following his meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri against the collapse of state institutions if political factions across the board fail to take immediate actions to avert imminent dangers.
“My visit to Speaker Berri was aimed at discussing the latest regional and domestic developments and the Lebanese should be aware that under the current circumstances Lebanon as an entity and state faces imminent threats, which require all political factions to engage in dialogue,” Moawad said.
Moawad added that he agreed with Berri over the need to elect a president in a bid to revive the role of state institutions, which should represent the only guarantee to the Lebanese people.
“Dialogue among political factions should continue and we should hold parliamentary elections as soon as possible,” Moawad said. “The logic behind behind calls to extend the term of a paralyzed Parliament is unacceptable,” he added.
