Head of Independence Movement pays condolences to Bayeh’s family, says all illegal weapons should be confiscated.
Head of Independence Movement Michel Moawad condemned on Sunday attacks targeting Lebanese security forces as he paid condolences to the family of Internal Security Forces officer Butros al-Bayeh who was killed in Tripoli last week.
During his participation in the funeral ceremony of al-Bayeh in his hometown Zghorta, Moawad said perpetrators should be apprehended and put on trial.
“Acts of violence against any Lebanese citizen shouldn’t be tolerated and particularly against an official security forces member because it undermines the state’s authority. The attack should be followed by the swift arrest and trial of the perpetrators,” Moawad said.
Moawad added that the state should impose its authority over all Lebanese territories by confiscating illegal weapons.
“This incident will strengthen our support to state institutions and fortify our alliance with moderate parties against extremists,” Moawad said.
