Head of the Independence Movement Michel Moawad said Hezbollah and its allies carried out a constitutional coup when they boycotted the presidential poll on May 7, 2014, stirring memories of the military coup that they undertook on the same date in 2008.

“The constitutional coup aimed at creating vacuum in the presidential post is a dark day for the Lebanese and stirs memories of the military coup carried out in 2008,” Moawad said in a tweet.
