Independence Movement leader Michel Moawad said Saturday the Doha Accord has laid the foundations for a constitutional convention, warning against attempts to abolish the Taif agreement.

“National Dialogue talks since 2006 and the Doha Accord, which have granted veto power to certain factions within the Cabinet, have laid the foundations for a constitutional convention. What we are witnessing today is in violation of our constitution and an attempt at a tripartite power sharing agreement…the only solution to our woes is to abide by the Taif agreement,” Moawad tweeted.
