The Independence Movement issued the following statement:
“Following the persistence in the trend of breaking down the constitutional institutions and the democratic Parliamentary Regime through two previous extensions of the Parliament’s mandate which were against the Constitution, and through blocking the democratic process of voting on the Legislative Elections law projects presented to the Parliament;
and as the impudence reached the level of presenting a draft law for an additional 1-year extension of the Parliament’s mandate, which was already extended twice,
the Independence Movement calls for a strong participation in the manifestations to take place in Beirut around the Parliament, aimed against the extension of the Parliament’s mandate, and calling for the ratification of a new elections law that ensures the proper representativeness of all the political components of the country.”
The statement added:
“Enough disrespect to the Lebanese’s will. Let our slogan tomorrow be: No for the extension.”
