The president of the ‘Independence Movement’ Michel Moawad posted on his ‘Twitter’ account:
“I express my solidarity with media figure Jessica Azar in her stand against one who was used to suppressing freedoms of expression, and tried to repress free speech… No one will ever be able to extinguish the torch of freedom in Lebanon.”
Azar is facing a court case based on defamation charges, initiated against her by General Jamil El Sayyed, after she retweeted a post by journalist Diana Moukalled on ‘Twitter’. Moukalled’s post said: “Jamil El Sayyed, the holder of a dark history in politics, media and conspiracies in the 90s, will be presented as a candidate in Hezbollah’s lists for the Parliamentary Elections. What could be next?”
Azar had commented on Moukalled’s words, saying: “A day of shame when a former security person, with the status of a first grade informer, could become a Member of Parliament.”
