The President of “The Independence Movement”, MP Michel Moawad, announced his resignation from the Parliament and said: “We are facing a system that does not want reform and does not want Lebanon’s neutrality, and insists that it drowns the country in wars and regional confrontations in the service of known goals.”
In a press conference held at his home in Baabda, Moawad stressed: “Enough is enough! As a member of the Parliament, according to the constitution, I represent the Lebanese community, which means I represent martyrs& injured of Beirut port explosion. I also represent 300.000 Lebanese people from all religions, regions and social classes who are left homeless, who left their jobs & their dreams in any future in Lebanon, the same as I represent people from my region Zgharta-Zawieh.”
He added: “I, Michel Rene Moawad, am the son of Fouad Chehab’s approach, the institutions’ approach, son of an approach that had always bet on legal institutions even during the war. I am deeply convinced that disabling the institutions will lead to destruction& devastation; therefore, since I became an MP, I tried to cooperate with all my colleagues to avoid reaching this point, where we stand today.”
MP Moawad confirmed “We are facing a system that does not want reform and does not want Lebanon’s neutrality, and insists that it drowns the country in wars and regional confrontations in the service of known goals. This system, despite the explosion of Beirut and all its ambiguous conditions, with all the contradictions in the official stories, after the death of 159 people, the injury of more than 6000 people, while 20 people are still missing and more than 300.000 people are made homeless, as well as the loss of billions of dollars; after all the above mentioned, it rejected to hold an international investigation, the government did not resign, the parliament did not call for a session and appointed it on next Thursday and none of the Lebanese leaders have shown empathy with the Lebanese people!”
He stated: “Indeed, even me who have always supported the institutions, I had enough because our institutions are hijacked by force of arms and game of axes, as well as corruption and negligence.”
“for all these reasons, because I listened to my people’s voice, because everything is meaningless in front of the Lebanese blood& our children’s future, I decided to present my resignation from the Lebanese Parliament and to go back to my fight from the streets with the supporters of “The Independence Movement” and the free Lebanese people in order to “overthrow the regime”, to build a sovereign, free& developed independent country; a country that can be held liable and is tolerant with its people.”
“They destroyed Beirut, but we will not let them steal our dreams and hopes… May God protect Lebanon.” he said.
