Head of the Independence Movement Michel Moawad discussed with a delegation of the Lebanese Women Democratic Gathering at his residence in Baabda the importance of increasing the role of women in political life.
Discussions tackled the issue of women’s quota in parliamentary elections, gender equality and non-discrimination when it comes to drafting public policies.
“We informed Moawad of our project that is aimed at boosting the participation of women in politics as well as democratic and social change based on gender equality and non-discrimination,” said Caroline Sukkar, vice president of the Lebanese Women Democratic Gathering.
“We consider the participation of women in politics as one of the pillars of the democratic process,” she added following the meeting.
Sukkar said Moawad expressed his support for the gathering’s project and stressed the importance of increasing women’s participation in political life.
