Independence Movement leader Michel Moawad called for the amendment of Lebanese laws to protect women against domestic violence.

“Providing justification for crimes committed against women is unacceptable,” Moawad tweeted in reference to the verdict in the case of Manal Assi who was brutally murdered by her husband.

“It is time that the judiciary takes a firm stand when it comes to murder regardless of the motives,” he added.
